Supplies:
Yarn – Lion Brand Thick & Quick (Super Bulky 6).
Order online: (Lion Brand) (Amazon USA) (Amazon Canada) (Michaels) (Love Crafts)
Needles – Size US 15/10mm.
Two buttons. I use these ones. The buttons are 2 hole, 1 1/6″ across.
Darning needle, measuring tape, scissors.
I use this Bodum French Press with my cover. The French press in the photo is the 34oz size. Pattern also includes directions for the 51 oz size.
Measurements:
The final measurements for the 8 cup / 1 litre / 34 oz will be 5” tall by 13” long when lying flat. The final measurements for the 12 cup / 1.5 litre / 51 oz will be 7” tall by 15” long. This project can be adjusted to fit any size French press by adding/removing stitches or rows.
Directions:
The 8 cup (34 oz) size is written in bold, and the 12 cup (51 oz) size is in brackets ( ).
Using #15 needles, cast on 10 stitches (14 stitches).
Knit across. Turn work. Knit across in the other direction. Continue to knit all back and forth.
Once you have worked a few rows, check the width of your work. It will be slightly shorter in your first two rows but then naturally increase to the measurement that will continue for the rest of the project. It should measure 5” (7”) across. If it does not, or if you are using a different size French press, you may need to adjust the number of stitches you cast on. It is better to check your measurements after a few rows and make any adjustments than to finish the project without checking!
Continue until your work measures 13” (15”) long (or desired length) when lying flat, not stretching it. With the type of pattern being used, the cover does have some nice stretch when wrapping it around the French press. If you are using a different size French press, make sure you allow some overlap on the ends where the buttons will hook into the other side.
Cast off.
Attach two buttons along the front, a couple inches from the edge. The buttons will hook onto the other end through the holes in the stitches. No pre-made button holes needed! My go-to buttons can be found here.
Weave in ends.
Enjoy your extra warm coffee.
