Each year when the buzz of Christmas excitement starts to settle and life begins to slide back into our the normal routines, temperature blankets are all the buzz in the knitting and crochet world.
What is a temperature blanket? The idea is you complete a year long knit or crochet blanket and the colors of each row are determined by the temperature each day in a specific location. You will complete 365 rows and each row color is based on the temperature that day. Many choose to do the current year, or a historical temperature blanket for a special year – such as a child’s first year, anniversary, year of a wedding, etc.
Last year I completed my first temperature blanket and loved having a project that I could pick up and work on throughout the year. You can find a full tutorial to set up your blanket and free crochet pattern here or purchase the printable PDF tutorial that includes a printable calendar to track your progress, blank temperature charts and other helpful sheets to keep your project organized.Â
Before starting my blanket, I searched the web for ideas and inspiration. Below I have rounded up the best temperature blanket ideas and inspiration along with some non-blanket ideas and other creative takes on this amazing temperature blanket trend. I also came across some must-have temperature blanket accessories to add to your project!

Temperature Blanket Ideas
Tahryn from Burgandy and Blush created a temperature blanket using Moss stitch, the same stitch as my free pattern. I love the pastel color tones she used. Tahryn chose to crochet one row for every second day of the year to keep the project more manageable.
Heather Leigh Cox has a lovely bright blanket and she shared more photos + free pattern here.
Toni from TL Yarn Crafts shared her gorgeous Tunisian crochet temperature blanket. This was done in 5 strips divided up through the year. Check out her full free pattern, and many more stunning photos!
Another Tunisian crochet blanket by Nona Davenport.

I came across an Etsy seller who makes pregnancy temperature blankets. I love this idea and it would make such a special gift for a mama-to-be and her new little one; or a fun project to work on while pregnant. An alternative to using the temperatures for the current year is a baby’s 1st year. The first year of marriage is also another special time and this is a unique way to document that year.
If you prefer a C2C (corner to corner) style, Esther Dijkstra from It’s All In A Nutshell has her pattern and tutorial available here.
An eye catching color palette by Minnowstitch!
Toni from TL Yarn Crafts also has a pattern for a granny square temperature blanket. I love the muted colors in this one!

Ideas For Your Temperature Charts
I used this color combination/temperature chart for my first temperature blanket.
This chart is similar to my original temperature blanket colors but I stuck to greens and purples. It was used for my temperature scarf.
Lion Brand has two sample temperature charts and color palettes which are a great starting point if you’re looking to plan out your blanket.
