Supplies:
Yarn – Patons Kroy Sock Yarn. Two balls are needed as you will use two strands of yarn together for this hat pattern. These two balls are enough to complete the hat in any size.
Purchase online: (Amazon USA) (Amazon Canada) (Michaels)
Needles – Please check your gauge before starting as you may need to go up or down a needle size to get the fit just right. Size US 6 /4mm 16” long circular needles for the brim. Size US 7/4.5mm, 16” long circular needles for the body; US 7/4.5mm double pointed needles for the decrease.
Darning needle, stitch marker, measuring tape and scissors.
Gauge:
** Note on this yarn – Although both yarns used in the photo are Kroy Sock Yarn, I obtained two different gauges as the gray/blue toned yarn was slightly thinner. The gauge listed is an average of the two.
4” x 4” = 17.5 stitches and 25 rows in stocking stitch – using the needle size for the base of the hat (not the needle size for the brim).
Gauge for gray/blue yarn: 18 stitches x 26 rows.
Gauge for pink/green yarn: 17 stitches x 24 rows.
Be sure to check your gauge to ensure the hat will fit properly.

Sizes:
0-3 Months, 3-12 Months, 1-2 Years (toddler), 3-12 Years (child), Teen/Women, Men
Recommended head circumference for each size:
0-3 Months – 13-15” 3-12 Years – 19-21”
3-12 Months – 15-18” Teen/Women – 21-22″
1-2 Years – 18-19” Men – 23-24”
Directions:
Find the end of yarn in the center of both balls. Line up the matching color changes on both pieces. Trim any extra length on one strand if needed so they are the same length and the color change lines up. The hat is knit using two strands of yarn. As you work through the hat, the spots where the color changes may not always line up exactly as they were when you started. This is ok and the hat will still work up in the stripes as shown in the photos. Alternatively, you can start the hat at any color point on each of the two strand which will give you a more random, yet still lovely, color combination as you work up the hat.
